EMIT Methane and Carbon Dioxide Version 1 Data Products Decommissioned

by LP DAAC - jwilson » Tue Mar 31, 2026 2:18 pm America/New_York

NASA's Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC) ceased distribution of Earth Surface Mineral Dust Source Investigation (EMIT) Version 1 methane and carbon dioxide enhancement and plume data products as of March 26, 2026. These four products are no longer available for search and download from NASA’s Earthdata Search.

The User Guides and Algorithm Theoretical Basis Documents (ATBDs) for these EMIT Version 1 data products will be retained and available via the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) dataset landing pages. The DOI landing pages will remain available as a permanent URL for historical information and citations.

Users are encouraged to transition to the EMIT Version 2 methane and carbon dioxide data products, which have:

An improved match filter process;
Uncertainty and sensitivity variables (added to the enhancement data products);
Emission rate estimates added to the applicable plume complex granules; and
Granules where plume complexes are present and not present (in the enhancement data product).
EMIT Version 2 data products are available for download through NASA’s Earthdata Search.

Please contact LP DAAC User Services with any questions or concerns.
