Global Land Cover Mapping and Estimation Data Product Now Includes Africa

The Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC) announces an expansion of the NASA Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) Global Land Cover Mapping and Estimation (GLanCE) data product with the inclusion of data for Africa.

GLanCE provides global land cover and land cover change data at a 30-meter spatial resolution for the time period of 2001 through 2021 for Africa. The GLanCE datasets are designed to be useful for a wide range of applications, including ecosystem, climate, and hydrologic modeling; monitoring the response of terrestrial ecosystems to climate change; carbon accounting; and land management.

The GLanCE data product now includes continental coverage over North America, South America, Europe, Oceania, and Africa. Coverage for Asia will be delivered in the coming months.

Learn more about the GLanCE data product by clicking the link in the Referenced Datasets section below. The link also provides the Digital Object Identifier for the dataset and several citation styles for properly citing the data.

Explore and access the GLanCE data product using NASA’s Earthdata Search. Please contact LP DAAC User Services with any questions.
