ASHOE-MAESA and SPADE Data Released

by ASDC - gmojica » Thu May 28, 2026 9:57 am America/New_York

The Atmospheric Science Data Center (ASDC) has released data for the Airborne Southern Hemisphere Ozone Experiment – Measurements for Assessing the Effects of Stratospheric Aircraft (ASHOE-MAESA) and the Stratospheric Photochemistry, Aerosols and Dynamics Expedition (SPADE) field campaigns. ASHOE-MAESA completed four deployments between January and November 1994 and utilized the NASA ER-2 aircraft alongside balloons, ground sites, and satellite imagery to investigate the cause of long-term reductions of ozone in the wintertime midlatitudes in the southern hemisphere. SPADE was conducted from October 1992 to October 1993 with the primary goal of quantifying key chemical reaction rates affecting ozone production and loss. SPADE also utilized the NASA ER-2 aircraft and balloons to complete its mission. Data for both projects is available via Earthdata Search.
