This post pertains to the “Chlorophyll a” data from the “Sentinel-3A / OLCI" and “Sentinel-3B / OLCI” satellites. When viewing this data from NASA’s Worldview UI and accessing tiles directly from the https://gibs-a.earthdata.nasa.gov domain, no Chlorophyll tiles are available for these satellites after April 28 2026. However, the following directory suggests that the satellites are still capturing data past that date:
https://oceandata.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/directdataaccess/Level-2/S3A-OLCI/2026/
I'm wondering if that’s expected and tiles are no longer being created for these datasets, or if there’s some other reason for tiles not being accessible for more recent dates.
An example of a tile that cannot be found currently:
https://gibs-a.earthdata.nasa.gov/wmts/epsg4326/best/wmts.cgi?TIME=2026-06-09T12:34:00Z&layer=S3A_OLCI_Chlorophyll_a&style=default&tilematrixset=1km&Service=WMTS&Request=GetTile&Version=1.0.0&Format=image%2Fpng&TileMatrix=0&TileCol=0&TileRow=0
Changing the TIME query parameter on this url to 2025-06-09 (one year ago) shows a tile of chlorophyll data.
If this ends up being an issue, let me know if there’s anything I can do on my end to help diagnose.
Thank you,
Justin
