The ASDC Releases AAOE Datasets

by ASDC - gmojica » Tue Jul 21, 2026 10:59 am America/New_York

The Atmospheric Science Data Center has released data for the Airborne Antarctic Ozone Experiment (AAOE) field campaign. AAOE was an international, multi-organizational campaign by NASA, NOAA, NSF, the Chemical Manufacturer’s Association (CMA), the UK Meteorological Office (UKMO), and the European center for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). The primary objective of AAOE was to perform a complex study of polar stratospheric clouds and their relation to the late winter and spring ozone loss over the Antarctic. To collect measurements, AAOE utilized specially instrumented NASA ER-2 and DC-8 aircraft. AAOE took place from August to October 1987 with flights based in Punta Arenas, Chile. Data for AAOE is available via Earthdata Search.
