The PO.DAAC State Of The Ocean (SOTO) tool will be retired in February 2026.
We encourage all users to transition to the NASA Worldview instead.

NASA Worldview uses the Global Imagery Browse Services (GIBS) to rapidly retrieve its imagery for an interactive browsing experience. While NASA Worldview uses OpenLayers as its mapping library, GIBS imagery can also be accessed from Google Earth, NASA World Wind, and several other clients. We encourage interested developers to build their own clients or integrate NASA imagery into their existing ones using these services.
View the Frequently Asked Questions and visit the Worldview Image of the Week archive which uses data and imagery available in Worldview to highlight recent events, hazards, and disasters.

Important Update:

SOTO has been officially shutdown and retired on March 27th, 2026.

The closest alternative application that we have is Worldview.

Use this link to make Worldview behave like the legacy SOTO:

https://go.nasa.gov/soto

We integrated the default layers and current date into Worldview, so you almost can't tell the difference between the legacy SOTO and the one at this new URL.

It's sad that SOTO is now gone, but I'm confident that the new URL will function nearly identically to legacy SOTO.

How do I've to modify this URL to get updated with the recent move to Earth data?

The PO.DAAC State Of The Ocean (SOTO) tool is retired, but the Hydrocron service will remain, so that URL will still work for the foreseeable future.

No URL modification is needed. Your existing Hydrocron endpoint:

https://soto.podaac.earthdatacloud.nasa.gov/hydrocron/v1/timeseries?feature=...

will continue to be used for SWOT data queries.
