Equinoctial Asymmetry in Incoming Solar Flux and Possible Orbital–Precessional Signatures

Recent analyses indicate that the factors contributing to the rapidly increasing Earth's Energy Imbalance (EEI) remain an active area of scientific investigation. In this context, analysis of the CERES EBAF Edition 4.2 Incoming Solar Flux record suggests a coherent latitude-dependent secular reorganization of the radiative field, characterized by hemispheric asymmetries and seasonal drift patterns emerging around equinoctial periods.
The study evaluates monthly zonal mean Incoming Solar Flux across latitude bands, calendar months, hemispheres, and Gregorian leap-year phases over the satellite record. The results indicate persistent hemispheric asymmetries, with opposite-sign secular trends between spring and autumn hemispheres and progressive evolution of these patterns throughout the annual cycle.

The present analysis raises a broader physical question: could the continuous evolution of Earth–Sun orbital geometry, particularly the precession of the equinoxes, generate measurable latitude-dependent secular variations in the incoming solar flux field over decadal to multidecadal timescales?

Are there previous studies or theoretical frameworks addressing possible precessional signatures in the spatial distribution of top-of-atmosphere incoming solar radiation beyond the classical Milankovitch timescales?
