Issues Regarding OCSSW MODIS_GEO

by mercury_1106 » Mon Aug 24, 2026 9:12 pm America/New_York

I’m wondering if this is a problem specific to me. Whenever I use the MODIS_GEO function in OCSSW to generate the corresponding GEO files for L1A files, I always see the following message:

ancillary_data.db
Warning! Non-optimal data exist in local repository.
Consider re-running with the --refreshDB option to check for optimal ancillary files

ERROR: MODIS geolocation processing failed.

However, I can actually download the corresponding GEO files directly from OceanData, and when I use these files for subsequent processing, I am able to successfully obtain L2 images—they do not lack valid pixels as the error message suggests. This issue has been reproduced on both of my servers and in a virtual machine on my personal compute. In addition, this issue occurred simultaneously at a certain point in time.
