NSIDC Request for New GCMD Keyword

by tkande86 » Tue Aug 25, 2026 1:39 pm America/New_York

I’d like to request a keyword be added under the Earth Science hierarchy:

Short name: NOT APPLICABLE
Long name: NOT APPLICABLE
Definition: Earth Science keyword does not apply.

For example, this could be selected for ancillary model output. Please let me know if this is an acceptable addition. Thanks,

Theresa

I don't think 'NOT APPLICABLE' is a suitable keyword under the Science Keyword hierarchy. It would show up in the Earthdata facets and could be confusing to users. If a keyword is not applicable, why would it be added to a collection. Is there a better keyword that would better explain what is being described or measured in the dataset?

It's my understanding that CMR requires a science keyword. I have an alternate plan, so you can disregard this post.
