GES DISC would like 2 new Project keywords:
GEOS
Legacy Data Recovery
Description: GEOS (note that the text is taken from our unpublished Platform webpage that we will convert over to be a Project webpage once the keyword is made)
The GEOS (Geodetic Earth Orbiting Satellite) Program developed three satellites for geodetic studies and for satellite-to-satellite tracking. GEOS 1 launched on November 6, 1965, and was a gravity-gradient-stabilized, solar-cell powered spacecraft that carried electronic and geodetic instrumentation. GEOS 1 was also known as Explorer 29. GEOS 2 launched on January 11, 1968, and was identical to the GEOS 1 satellite and was also known as Explorer 36. GEOS 3 launched on April 9, 1975, and was later renamed the Geodynamics Experimental Ocean Satellite. GEOS 3 was an octahedron spacecraft, topped by a truncated pyramid, with a parabolic reflector for a radar altimeter on the flat bottom side.
Description: Legacy Data Recovery
The Legacy Data Recovery presents a miscellaneous collection of data and documents that date from the 1960’s to the early 1980’s. These data and documents are not archived in CMR. Many of these data come from tapes, microfilm, and microfiche that had been stored in the DAAC archives for decades. The data from magnetic tapes were recovered as part of the GES DISC Data Recovery project across many years. These data were not processed or made publicly available, but are available upon request. In 2016 some of the documents were recovered and digitized, but were not processed or made publicly available. The documents are often not related to any one specific mission and may encompass several missions.

@ezamkoff
Project keywords should have a short name and long name structure when applicable. For example,
‘ESIP > Earth Science Information Partners’.
GEOS:
Should this project keyword be structured as ‘GEOS > Geodetic Earth Orbiting Satellite’?
Please provide a reference URL for the project keyword.
Legacy Data Recovery:
Do you want to have a short name for this project keyword? It is not required.
