  • GEDI is designed to measure tree height. ICESat-2 and GEDI measure in different ways with GEDI being full waveform.
  • GEDI was specifically designed for veg height, so the footprint size is designed as such. Canopy has a better reflectance at 1064 nm (GEDI) than 532 nm(ICESat-2).
  • GEDI was specifically designed to measure vegetation height and structure, including beneath the densest canopies. It was designed with enough laser power to measure the ground through the canopy.
