New Keyword Level to be added to the GCMD Related URL Type keywords

by GCMD - sritz » Thu Sep 02, 2021 5:04 pm America/New_York

With the release of GCMD Keyword Version 11.0 on September 8, 2021 there will be an additional level named "URLContentType" added to the GCMD Related URL Type Keyword hierarchy. Please find additional information about this change below in a repost of a message initially shared with the NASA EOSDIS DAACs in July 2021.

UMM-C RelatedUrls URLContentType, Type, and Subtype to use GCMD KMS keywords instead of schema enumerations

To:
Anyone interested in changes to the UMM-C RelatedUrls schema where we are moving to use GCMD (Global Change Master Directory) KMS (Keyword Management System) keywords instead of schema enumerations.

Subject:
UMM-C RelatedUrls URLContentType, Type, and Subtype to use GCMD KMS keywords instead of schema enumerations

What’s Happening:
This notification is to inform you that the UMM-C RelatedUrls’ URLContentType, Type, and Subtype element definitions are changing from the use of schema enumerations to strings. Instead of using schema validation, the CMR will validate that the values provided in a UMM-C record match with the GCMD KMS values. The CMR will flag any keywords that do not match the KMS system as errors. The CMR will continue to translate other specification supported formats (DIF 10, ECHO 10, ISO MENDS/SMAP) RelatedUrls values to valid values as it does today. The projected delivery dates for UAT is August 11, 2021, and for production is August 25th. The UMM-C version number that includes this change will be 1.16.5.

Why is this happening:
This change will speed up the process of getting new end user requested keywords that are added to the GCMD KMS to production. It will also lessen the rate of needed UMM-C schema changes to keep up with the added keywords.

Action Needed:
Optional for Those Affected (below)

If you have any concerns with these additions please contact contact CMR support: cmr-support@earthdata.nasa.gov

Who is Affected?
All of the DAACs who currently ingest CMR records using the UMM-C specification. This change only removes the specific enumerations from the schema. The CMR will now validate that the keywords match what is in KMS for the RelatedUrls’ URLContentType, Type, and Subtype keywords instead of using UMM-C schema validation for this purpose.
