TRMM 3A25 data

TRMM 3A25 provides number of pixels conditioned on convective rain, shallow rain, and isolated shallow rain. As per TRMM documentation, all isolated shallow rain are categorised as convective and about 40% of shallow rain is also considered convective. If number of isolated shallow pixels and 40% of shallow rain pixels are removed from total number of convective pixels, will that be a representative of deep convective pixels. If not, how can one get an estimate of only deep convective pixels analogous to deep convection in climate models. Thanks

Thank you for your inquiry about 3A25.

3A25 consists of space-time statistics of Level-2 PR products. If you can’t find the deep convection information, you might need to go back to Level-2 PR products and develop such product based on your criteria (e.g., deep convection).

A long-time TRMM and GPM science team member at Texas A&M @ Corpus Christi has developed a global precipitation feature database from TRMM (and GPM),
