Subscriptions disappeared?

by oo_processing » Tue May 03, 2022 10:32 am America/New_York

On Satuday at 8:12 pm I got messages that subscriptions were expiring soon.
I didn't see these messages until this morning.
When I click on any of them, they are an error.
When I go into the subscription dashboard, it says I have no subscriptions.

When I search for specific one on:
https://oceandata.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/subscriptions/existingsubscription/

and enter 2975 for instance, it should be
2975 Mar 10 2022 12:00AM - MODIS-Aqua Region (N: 19, S: 17.5, E: -68.1, W: -64.1) N: 19, S: 17.5, E: -68.1, W: -64.1

And instead it brings up:
Join Extracted Data Subscription
Subscription Duration
Start Date: Aug 3 2017 12:00AM
End Date:
Region
Standard Region: ECS_ZJ
Description: Zhejiang Coastal

When I enter 1405 for instance it should be (start Oct 9 2000):
1405 Oct 9 2020 12:00AM - OLCI-S3A Region (N: 37, S: 28, E: 119, W: 127) N: 37, S: 28, E: 119, W: 127

And instead it brings up:
Join Extracted Data Subscription
Subscription Duration
Start Date: Jan 1 2010 12:00AM
End Date: Jan 7 2025 12:00AM
Region
Standard Region: South_AOI_new
Description: New South AOI 2010

If you look at the start dates of any of my old subscription areas they are different from those showing up under the search existing sub.

Further, with the url
https://oceandata.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/subscriptions/sub/2975/
it returns this:
sub_2975.png
sub_2975.png (82.79 KiB) Not viewed yet
And this url https://oceandata.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/subscriptions/existingsubscription/ with 2975 put into it returns this:
existingsub_2976.png
existingsub_2976.png (187.14 KiB) Not viewed yet

Hi. I know this issue was also being worked via email. Have all of your subscriptions been successfully retrieved at this point?

Yes, all have been returned thanks to great manual database magic!

Another great lesson learned is that they actually don't ever really go away.
Worst case, they may stop being populated if not re-subscribed in a timely manner.

However, I also learned that subscriptions created with a login, in fact, are not associated with the login name.
Instead, they are associated with the login's current email at the time the subscription was created.

When a logon's email is changed on Earthdata, those subscriptions created with the old email are no longer associated with the user's login, even though the user has only changed their email address.

It seems odd that subscriptions are not associated with a users login name. I would think the fix is to either change a specific table entry from email to user name, or more likely, insert a unique secondary table key from the user table into that appropriate subscription database table.

But it is the way it happens for now.

Cheers
