Sea Ice flag criteria

by smcclish » Tue May 24, 2022 8:32 pm America/New_York

Hi,
I am wondering what is the criteria for the l2 flags CLDICE and SEAICE and what is the difference? Basically I'm trying to understand how level 2 and level 3 chlorophyll data is masked for sea ice.

Thanks!

The l2gen flag CLDICE is set for a pixel when the cloud albedo (defined as the rayleigh corrected TOA refectance in a specified NIR or SWIR band - varies by sensor) is above a threshold (default is 0.027 for the band closest to 865nm). It's the cloud/ice flag because both clouds and ice can trigger it.
The SEAICE flag set by the input "icefile" dataset and is set when the ice fraction exceeds 10%.
