MODIS Aqua reprocessing status 2022

Hello, I am relatively new to remote sensing and I was told that the MODIS Aqua ocean color dataset is in the middle of reprocessing. Is there an update on how much has been completed and when it is expected to be done? Also, I am curious about the major changes between this reprocessing and the 2018 version?

I apologize if this is posted somewhere else, but I have tried to search for these answers and have not found them. I would appreciate any help on this matter.

Hi,

In terms of time of completion: L2 - OC and IOP are completed. L3 binning is underway as of this morning, so I this week seems likely. @OB ODPS - towens can give a better estimate if I am too far off-base.

I'll just tack onto this question to ask if the CMR Search website has an estimated date it will sync with the oceancolour site?

For MODIS-Aqua both R2018 and R2022 Level-2 files are there, but a number of files from the R2022 processing are still missing. Attached is an image of the 2003 R2018 L2 files (open circles) and R2022 (points) coloured by Day.Night flag. Just making sure that there is not a new time cutoff for the L2 files in this reprocessing?

The CMR records are complete for R2022.

I just ran a query in search.earthdata.nasa.gov for 2003 using the bounding box you defined. It returns 1656 granules.
Running a similar query in our L1/2 browser returns 1560. The 96 difference is likely the difference between geodetic (CMR polygon bounds) and quadsphere based searches.

Running the CMR query for R2018 returned 2200 granules. More than the R2022, but the R2018 CMR records were populated using a Cartesian (bounding box) coordinate system, while the R2022 uses a Geodetic (polygon) system. The Cartesian results will give more false positives.
