EMIT Acquires First Light Image!

by LP DAAC - jwilson » Mon Aug 08, 2022 11:52 am America/New_York

NASA's Earth Surface Mineral Dust Source Investigation (EMIT) was successfully installed on the International Space Station (ISS) and has provided its first view of the Earth. According to NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), the milestone, called "first light," took place at 7:51 p.m. PDT (10:51 p.m. EDT) on July 27 as the space station passed over Western Australia. EMIT will help scientists better understand the mineral dust composition of the Earth and how dust affects climate heating and cooling. Read NASA JPL’s article “NASA's mineral dust detector starts gathering data” to learn more, see the first light image, and watch several videos from JPL on the installation of the instrument on the ISS.
