URS Tokens required for Download?

Up until a few weeks ago, downloading from e4ftl01.cr.usgs.gov did not require a URS token to download, just an Earthdata username and password. Are tokens required now? Responses from e4ftl01 have been slow lately, so it has been difficult to say for sure what the problem is. Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave,
Sorry for the server issues. My hunch is this is related to ongoing server issues we are having. As far as tokens go, it depends on which route you are using to access e4ftl01. Through Earthdata all you need is your login information, however for scripts like the AppEEARS API it requires a token.
Thanks,
Brett

Brett,

This Earthdata instructions for Python listed here no longer work:
https://urs.earthdata.nasa.gov/documentation/for_users/data_access/python

I'm having the same authentication problem with NSIDC and GSFC downloads, so this is probably due to some global Earthdata changes rather than recent LP DAAC maintenance. " wget --load-cookies ~/.urs_cookies --save-cookies ~/.urs_cookies --auth-no-challenge=on --keep-session-cookies" still works, but it would be nice to see updated instructions for download from Python.

Thanks,
Simon (Google Earth Engine Data team)
