Daymet V4 Updates Forthcoming for 2020 and 2021

by ORNL - mthornton » Mon Oct 17, 2022 5:16 pm America/New_York

The ORNL DAAC has recently discovered missing daily variable readings used as input in the Daymet V4 processing in the month of January for a significant portion of Canadian weather stations for the years 2020 and 2021 and is in the process of rerunning Daymet V4 for those years with corrected input files. The missing readings have been verified by the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) who maintain the Global Historical Climatology Network daily (GHCN-d). NCEI has corrected issues with the Environment Canada ingest feed which led to the missing readings and has built in more protections to prevent the loss of data.

As soon as possible, the ORNL DAAC will replace all Daymet V4 2020 and 2021 dataset files and within all download and access methods but is continuing the current distribution of the North American data for those years. Users needing current data for the Canadian spatial region should consider waiting for that replacement and consider reevaluation if data were used in studies that involved the Canadian spatial extent for 2020 or 2021.

Specifically, files for years 2020 and 2021 datasets will be replaced in the following datasets:
https://doi.org/10.3334/ORNLDAAC/1840
https://doi.org/10.3334/ORNLDAAC/1852
https://doi.org/10.3334/ORNLDAAC/1855
https://doi.org/10.3334/ORNLDAAC/1850

Station level daily weather observation data and the corresponding cross-validation results are available for the current distribution of data from this dataset: https://doi.org/10.3334/ORNLDAAC/1850.

Please feel free to post questions through the Earthdata Forum or email the ORNL DAAC User Services at uso@daac.ornl.gov with any concerns or questions.
