Daymet V4 Revision 1 Released November 1, 2022

by ORNL - mthornton » Tue Nov 01, 2022 4:59 pm America/New_York

On November 1, 2022 the ORNL DAAC transitioned Daymet V4 distribution to a V4 Revision 1 (V4 R1) distribution. A short-lived interruption in DAAC Daymet data access and services will have occurred. Daymet V4 R1 data distribution includes an update and complete replacement of all 2020 and 2021 files in all Daymet V4 R1 collections, including all access and distribution methods. The update is reflected in new dataset DOIs (shown below) and URL access points. The Single Pixel Extraction Tool now provides the most current V4 R1 data. All other Daymet data files (1950-2019) in this V4 R1 distribution are unchanged from the V4 distribution but are now distributed within the updated datasets. The ORNL DAAC has removed collections associated with Daymet V4 from NASA Earthdata Cloud distribution and is in the process of replacing those with the V4 R1 collections.

The replacement of 2020 and 2021 files improved Daymet V4 model predictions especially in high-latitude, mostly Canadian, areas based solely on a new set of station inputs. It was found that in the month of January for a significant number of Canadian station input files, a large number of missing variable readings were present. The missing readings have been verified by the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) who maintain the Global Historical Climatology Network daily (GHCNd). NCEI has corrected issues with the Environment Canada ingest feed which led to the missing readings and has built in more protections to prevent the loss of data.
