MODIS Terra+Aqua combined Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Surface Radiation (MCD18A1) and Photosynthetically Active Radiation (MCD18A2) Version 6 data products were decommissioned on October 28, 2022. The User Guide and Algorithm Theoretical Basis Document (ATBD) for the MODIS V6 radiation data products have been retained and are available via the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) landing pages on the LP DAAC website. The DOI landing page for each product remains available as a permanent URL for historical information and citations.

Users are encouraged to use the new MODIS Version 6.1 datasets. A link for the DOI landing page for each dataset is provided below.

MODIS/Terra+Aqua Surface Radiation Daily/3-Hour L3 Global 1 km SIN Grid V061 - MCD18A1
MODIS/Terra+Aqua Photosynthetically Active Radiation Daily/3-Hour L3 Global 1 km SIN Grid V061 - MCD18A2
MODIS/Terra+Aqua Downward Shortwave Radiation Daily/3-Hour L3 Global 0.05 Deg CMG V061 - MCD18C1
MODIS/Terra+Aqua Photosynthetically Active Radiation Daily/3-Hour L3 Global 0.05 Deg CMG V061 - MCD18C2
Users can access the MODIS Version 6.1 radiation data products through the Data Pool and NASA’s Earthdata Search. Additional improvements are being implemented for MODIS radiation products with an expected released for Version 6.2 in late 2022.
