Question about capitalization in GCMD keywords
Question about capitalization in GCMD keywords
Hello,
Last month, I requested that 4 instruments, Total Detector, Window Detector, Shortwave Detector, and Longwave Detector, be added to the GCMD. You can find the question here: viewtopic.php?t=3788. The keywords were successfully added to the GCMD however, the words are in all caps in the GCMD. For example, "LONGWAVE DETECTOR" vs "Longwave Detector".
Would it be possible to have only the first letter capitalized for each word in the instrument names?
We realized that the keywords only have the first letter of each word capitalized in the .met files for these collections, so our data provider will need to update a lot of code to change the words to all caps. If we are unable to change to mixed case in the GCMD, do you have any recommendations on how we could fix this?
Apologies for not realizing this on the initial keyword request post.
Thank you!

Re: Question about capitalization in GCMD keywords
Hi Caroline, it is possible to request keywords in "Title" case by using the "case=title" parameter.
Request "LONGWAVE DETECTOR" with preflabel "Longwave Detector".
https://gcmd.earthdata.nasa.gov/kms/concept/dc7aac56-5fb4-4c0d-ba3d-2c396db4edc0?case=title&format=json
You can change format to "xml" or "rdf" as well.
The options for case are "title", "all_lower", "all_upper". If you leave case empty, the default will be "all_upper".

Re: Question about capitalization in GCMD keywords
Thank you for explaining this, Scott! Can I submit a request to have these instrument names changed to “title” case? Or is it too late at this point?

Re: Question about capitalization in GCMD keywords
ok, so you want the keywords to Natively be mixed case?
Earth Remote Sensing Instruments > Passive Remote Sensing > Thermal/Radiation > Total Detector
Earth Remote Sensing Instruments > Passive Remote Sensing > Thermal/Radiation > Window Detector
Earth Remote Sensing Instruments > Passive Remote Sensing > Thermal/Radiation > Shortwave Detector
Earth Remote Sensing Instruments > Passive Remote Sensing > Thermal/Radiation > Longwave Detector
Earth Remote Sensing Instruments > Passive Remote Sensing > Thermal/Radiation > Total Detector

Re: Question about capitalization in GCMD keywords
Hi Caroline, I changed the keywords to be Natively Title Case. The changes will be in Operations on Friday morning.
