LP DAAC Releases OPERA Land Surface Disturbance Alert Provisional Data Product

by LP DAAC - jwilson » Tue Feb 07, 2023 10:05 am America/New_York

The LP DAAC is pleased to announce the availability of the Observation Products for End-Users for Remote Sensing Analysis (OPERA) Land Surface Disturbance Alert from Harmonized Landsat Sentinel-2 (HLS) provisional data product. This product maps vegetation disturbance using inputs from the Operational Land Imager (OLI) aboard the Landsat 8/9 satellites and the Multi-Spectral Instrument (MSI) aboard the Sentinel-2A/B satellites. Vegetation disturbance is detected when there is an indicated decrease in vegetation cover within an HLS pixel. The use of HLS data allows observations of land disturbance every 2–4 days at 30 meter (m) spatial resolution.

The Global Land Disturbance Mapping for JPL OPERA at the University of Maryland, is sponsored by NASA and developed at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in response to scientific gaps identified by the Satellite Needs Working Group (SNWG).
