by GES DISC - zliu » Fri Feb 21, 2020 10:12 am America/New_York

Prerequisites:

A user must register with Earthdata Login and be authorized to access data at GES DISC. Please read more by clicking GES DISC data-access.

1) Obtain a HDF5 data file via online archive https://gpm1.gesdisc.eosdis.nasa.gov/data/GPM_L2/

For example, https://gpm1.gesdisc.eosdis.nasa.gov/data/GPM_L2/GPM_2AGPROFGPMGMI.05/2014/184/2A.GPM.GMI.GPROF2017v1.20140703-S012117-E025349.001951.V05A.HDF5

2) Open Panoply. In File|Open Remote Dataset, copy and paste the URL from 1). Click on the Load button, and enter your Earthdata account credentials.

3) Pick a variable and click on Create Plot. For example, surfacePrecipitation, in this example. Now you will see a plot of surface precipitation from GMI GPROF.
