Availability of NCEP and AURAOMI ancillary data

by romanbc » Wed Mar 01, 2023 10:04 am America/New_York

Since this February NCEP and AURAOMI ancillary data is not accessible via catalog, but it is still available via file search or direct download.

Will these data be continuously published and available this way or is there a plan to stop its availability at a certain date?

Since we have transitioned to using the GMAO met and ozone in our Ocean Color and SST processing, the plan is to cease production of the NCEP and AURAOMI ancillary. Hiding the files from the catalog was the first step to ascertain how many users have not made the change.

Thanks for the reply. Is there already approximate date when the production of NCEP and AURAOMI will be stopped?

No definite date, but I wouldn't expect it to continue past June.

We are actively using the AURAOMI and NCEP files for Aquatic Reflectance processing. I will work on making the switch to the other datasets. Is there any way you would be able to keep the NCEP and AURAOMI products listed and available (without special handling on our end) until we can make the switch? Right now we aren't finding the AURAOMI files and some of the NCEP files. Thanks.

I have set the system to process and temporarily publish new MET_NCEPR2_6h and O3_AURAOMI_24h. They will show up the next time they are processed. Older files will be available via the file search. Please make the transition to the GMAO ancillary as this is a temporary fix.

Thank you. We are actively working towards an alternative product for our aquatic reflectance processing.

We at the USGS are using the 6-hour MET_NCEP_6h.hdf products vs. the NCEPR2 products. But it appears those products are still being provided in a hidden fashion. Our download scripts, however are not finding the AURAOMI files again. The last day they were available was DOY082, 2023. Thanks for your assistance.

There have been delays in publishing the source files. We process them as soon as they are available. Our processing uses two consecutive granules so the missing granule for day 83 is preventing us from creating a file for day 83 and day 84. Day 85 is available and day 86 should be available shortly. I will contact our source regarding the missing file for day 83. I'm wondering if the geomagnetic storm caused a data loss.

The day 83 file was delivered to the archive. You should have your ancillary files shortly.
