I want to use the monthly climatology data of chlorophyll-a concentration from MODIS Level 3 database, is there a document that explain how this data calculated? thank you

Are you asking how the means are calculated or how chlorophyll-a concentration is calculated?

The mean values are the arithmetic mean of all of the monthly means for that particular month for the entire mission.

The algorithm we use is described here : Chlorophyll a (chlor_a; mg m-3)

Yes, I am asking about how the means are calculated. How about the outliers data? Are the outliers data removed from the arithmatical calculation?

Thank you,
Nabila

No - they are not trimmed in any way.

Hi, I am trying to do the same and I am limiting the time span to be considered for the climatology. However, the output files indicate from the file names that the full data set was used in any case and the limitation in time is ignored.
How to deal with this?
Many thanks,
Martin Schmidt

We do not create temporal subsets of the climatology time series, we calculate only for the full mission. If you require a temporal subset, you will need to download the monthly files and calculate the means yourself using a program like SeaDAS.
