Hydrology data rods "Did not get a virtual rod successfully for your request". No data outside of 2022 ?

Hello,

I am trying to use the Hydrology Data Rods for NLDAS-2 data and I noticed that out of the two products NLDAS-Forcing (LSM) and NLDAS 2.0-Forcing (LSM) the latter only works for the year 2022.

This can be verified on the Data Rods Explorer App and the traditional API access via url:

2020:

NLDAS-Forcing (LSM) (works):
-DRE: https://apps.hydroshare.org/apps/data-rods-explorer/?model=NLDASF&variable=APCPsfc&plotTime=2020-05-18T00&lon=-90.0293&lat=34.3797&endDate=2020-05-18T23&startDate=2020-05-11T00
-API: https://hydro1.gesdisc.eosdis.nasa.gov/daac-bin/access/timeseries.cgi?variable=NLDAS:NLDAS_FORA0125_H.002:APCPsfc&type=asc2&location=GEOM:POINT(-90.0293,%2034.3797)&startDate=2020-05-11T00&endDate=2020-05-18T23

NLDAS 2.0-Forcing (LSM) (does not work): Error message "ERROR: Error message: Did not get a virtual rod successfully for your request."
-DRE: https://apps.hydroshare.org/apps/data-rods-explorer/?model=NLDAS2F&variable=Rainf&plotTime=2020-05-18T00&lon=-90.0293&lat=34.3797&endDate=2020-05-18T23&startDate=2020-05-11T00
-API: https://hydro1.gesdisc.eosdis.nasa.gov/daac-bin/access/timeseries.cgi?variable=NLDAS2:NLDAS_FORA0125_H_v2.0:Rainf&type=asc2&location=GEOM:POINT(-90.0293,%2034.3797)&startDate=2020-05-11T23&endDate=2020-05-18T23

For the year 2022 with the exact same inputs everything works:

NLDAS-Forcing (LSM):
-DRE: https://apps.hydroshare.org/apps/data-rods-explorer/?model=NLDASF&variable=APCPsfc&plotTime=20212-05-18T00&lon=-90.0293&lat=34.3797&endDate=2022-05-18T23&startDate=2022-05-11T00
-API: https://hydro1.gesdisc.eosdis.nasa.gov/daac-bin/access/timeseries.cgi?variable=NLDAS:NLDAS_FORA0125_H.002:APCPsfc&type=asc2&location=GEOM:POINT(-90.0293,%2034.3797)&startDate=2022-05-11T00&endDate=2022-05-18T23

NLDAS 2.0-Forcing (LSM):
-DRE: https://apps.hydroshare.org/apps/data-rods-explorer/?model=NLDAS2F&variable=Rainf&plotTime=2022-05-18T00&lon=-90.0293&lat=34.3797&endDate=2022-05-18T23&startDate=2022-05-11T00
-API: https://hydro1.gesdisc.eosdis.nasa.gov/daac-bin/access/timeseries.cgi?variable=NLDAS2:NLDAS_FORA0125_H_v2.0:Rainf&type=asc2&location=GEOM:POINT(-90.0293,%2034.3797)&startDate=2022-05-11T23&endDate=2022-05-18T23

Are we aware of server maintenance or anything of the sort on these data products? I haven't seen anything pertaining to that but I might have missed it.

Thank you for shading light on this matter!

Thank you for your interest in using the Hydrology Datarods at the NASA GES DISC. Regarding your query, please try accessing the datarods again. The issue you were seeing has been fixed.

Additionally, As you can see from the “GES DISC Tools: Hydrology Data Rods” page, https://disc.gsfc.nasa.gov/information/tools?title=Hydrology%20Data%20Rods, only a set of pre-selected variables are enabled in Data Rods access. The surface pressure data (PRESsfc) is not enabled for NLDAS-002.

We are working on the addition of NLDAS-2.0 (netCDF version), and recreated the NLDAS data rods based on the NLDAS-2.0 (netCDF version). More variables are enabled in the NLDAS-2.0 netCDF version based data rods access, including the surface pressure data (PSurf).

The NLDAS-2.0 (netCDF version) based data rods have not been released to the public yet. They currently end on December 01, 2022. These rods are generated on-the-fly instead of pre-generated, so they might be a little slower. You may need to grab data in a few time periods instead of the entire record at once.

Thank you for your answer and for addressing the issue, this will be very useful. Looking forward to seeing the netCDF version fully operational in the future!
