MOD10A1 striping/stripes in early 2000s

by pohl6541_1 » Thu Apr 27, 2023 5:39 am America/New_York

I am wondering about the striping in MOD10A1 (v60 /v61) and the best way to remove it. The "stripes" are 0-values with no indication of invalid data in the QA mask - example: MOD10A1.A2000069.h23v05.061.2020037233627.hdf . The stripes are in version 6 and 6.1. I did not check when these stripes disappear but the same scene in 2010 does not have these stripes: MOD10A1.A2010068.h23v05.061.2021154091605.hdf

First, I wonder why there are stripes as other products seem to not have it. And second, how can I remove them efficiently - as I cannot simply use the QA mask (no indication in there).

The GES DISC does not serve this data. I am adding LAADS.

Thank you for your question. This poster presented at a NASA science team meeting addresses both the causes of the is striping and a potential solution.
