Hi,
I'm looking to explore the data referred to here: https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/145703/unusual-monsoon-season-causes-flooding-in-india
However, it seems the MODIS data for floods is available only from 2021. How can I access the data for 2019?
Thank you :)

Re: MODIS Floods
Hi @tech_tonic Thank you for writing in! The article used MODIS Aqua Corrected Reflectance data. Specifically the band combination 7-2-1 from NASA's Worldview, which is useful for highlighting flooding. To see data from 2019 I recommend visiting NASA Worldview at: https://worldview.earthdata.nasa.gov and then typing in your region of interest (or panning and zooming into your region). Then add your start date of interest to the timeline below using the arrows or clicking on the item and typing in the date, month or year. To add the MODIS Aqua Corrected Reflectance 7-2-1 data layer, click on the orange "add layers" button near the bottom left of the screen and type MODIS Aqua Corrected Reflectance into the search bar at the top new window that opened up. Then select the "Corrected Reflectance (Bands 7-2-1)" layer and then click on the X or anywhere on the map to close that window. Then you can interact with the timeline to visualize the data over your region of interest. You can click on the i to the right of the layer to learn more about that layer.
You might also be interested in the Suomi NPP VIIRS Corrected Reflectance (Bands M11, I2, I1) layer as well. You can view that data by following the same instructions above but search for "Suomi NPP VIIRS Corrected Reflectance" instead. The Suomi NPP VIIRS Corrected Reflectance (Bands M11, I2, I1) is available for download. If you see data you would like to download, click on the "Data" tab on the left side of the screen. You can then select which product you would like to download (hover over the i for more information about each), then, if you would like, you can click on set your Area of Interest before clicking on the orange "DOWNLOAD VIA EARTHDATA SERACH" button to be taken to Earthdata Search to download the data.
Please let us know if you have any more questions.
Thanks!
Danielle

Re: MODIS Floods
Hi Danielle,
Thank you for your kind response! There used to be a NRT Global Flood Map website (https://web.archive.org/web/20210318220415/https://floodmap.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/getTile.php?location=070E030N) that provided helpful insights on floods since 2002.
A newer version has replaced this and this is available as a layer on Earth View as well (https://www.earthdata.nasa.gov/learn/find-data/near-real-time/modis-nrt-global-flood-product)
Unfortunately, the newer version is only from 2022 onwards and I am unable to find a layer for the legacy version to view the 2019 data. I sent an email to Earthdata Support but haven't heard back from them. Is there any other way to obtain this data? Would you be able to share this to prxnavvv@gmail.com?
Thank you!

Re: MODIS Floods
Hi tech_tonic,
As you know the MODIS Near Real-Time Global Flood Product (Collection 61) (BETA) (MCDWD) processed by NASA's Land, Atmosphere Near real-time Capability for EOS (LANCE) replaces the previous legacy NASA NRT Global Flood Mapping Product. The flood product is currently only available in forward processing. An updated archive will be made available but we don't yet have a timeframe for this. For now users should to contact support@earthdata.nasa.gov with flood in the subject line to be provided with access the old archive.
I understand you have and someone has responded to your query. If you have additional questions, please let me know.
best
Diane
