Greetings,

We need to add an instrument keyword to GCMD for the PREFIRE project (TIRS - Thermal InfraRed Spectrometer), but need some guidance on how to go about it. Unfortunately it shares an acronym/short name with a Landsat instrument (TIRS - Thermal InfraRed Sensor). I have no information about whether this instrument will be produced again for other projects, so I don't know that you'd want to add it with a project qualifier. If having duplicate shortnames is okay, then we will continue with "TIRS". If it isn't, we could add a project qualifier ("TIRS (PREFIRE)" or "TIRS-PREFIRE"). Any guidance on this would be appreciated.

Hi Erin, I think to avoid any confusion we should add this keyword as "TIRS-PREFIRE" if that works for you all. This is how we have managed situations where two Instruments have the same name in the past.

Yes. Please add the short name as "TIRS-PREFIRE". I would like to keep the long name as "Thermal InfraRed Spectrometer" if possible. The other TIRS uses "Sensor" instead of "Spectrometer", but let me know if you think that will still cause too much confusion.

Hi Erin, we will add "TIRS-PREFIRE > Thermal InfraRed Spectrometer" to the GCMD Keyword List.
