Hi,
I, Madhusmita Swain, a postdoctoral associate at Atmospheric Science Research centre, University at Albany. I am using AIRS data product for my research, as it is very good for climatological analysis.
I wanted to use AIRS L3 TqJoint data product for my study but found that there is no data available over north-Europe and north-Canada region for each year and each level only for ascending time. I have attached the images for temperature and relative humidity field at 200 hPa for your reference.
If you please provide me the reason for which there is no data available over that regions, then it will be very useful for my research.

Waiting for your reply.

Thanks,
Madhusmita

Hello again,

Can you inform us where you acquired this data product?

This data is AIRS V7 L3 data. I have downloaded from the below link,

Hello. We have had a productive discussion about your question. The following combines the comments from several data experts. Also, see the associated image below.

For more AIRS questions, you can also go here: Ask AIRS

The missing data over north-Europe and north-Canada in the figures you show is a feature of the AIRS TqJoint product that requires that the data reported at all levels have good quality for the entire column all the way to the surface. If you are able to use the non-TqJoint temperature and relative humidity at 200 hPa you will find more valid data at that level in those regions. There can be a number of reasons why AIRS is not able to retrieve the temperature and relative humidity all the way to the surface. A significant reason is likely because of clouds (see the figure of Cloud Fraction for the non-TqJoint product) but smoke, solar zenith angle, and difficulty estimating the surface emissivity over land and mixed land/lake/snow can all cause problems for the algorithm.
Finally, here is a link to our Giovanni system with these variables.
