Is there a way to extract the AppEEARs boxplot data?

by cabecrandall » Sat Oct 07, 2023 7:58 pm America/New_York

I have made a few thousand requests for MOD16A2GF data for catchments all over with the purpose of downloading and processing the median ET and PET for each catchment area per 8 days (in the end, they will be compiled into a time series for each catchment). However, I see that the processed requests already have graphs with the data that I need. Is there any way to access/download the numbers that I am seeing there?

Hi @cabecrandall Did you click on the "Download the contents of the request" button for your request via this page: https://appeears.earthdatacloud.nasa.gov/explore? It is the blue button after the button you used to see the graphs. That page should have statistics and data values for your request. For example the csv will include data on Count, Minimum, Maximum, Range, Mean, Standard Deviation, Variance, Upper Quartile, Upper 1.5, Median, Lower 1.5, and Lower Quartile. Are you looking for numbers outside of those data values?

Hi Danielle, I had one more question. I'm currently planning on scraping each download link in order to get the .csv's with the stats for every catchment, but I was wondering: Is there a way to have all of the stat files for my requests compiled a different way for quick downloading?

At this time I don't need any other information from the completed requests.

Thanks,
Caleb

Hi @cabecrandall I will run this idea past the AppEEARS team. Is there a specific way they could be complied that would be helpful for you?

Just as a directory of .csv’s would be sufficient. All I need are the date and mean/median columns for ET and PET, but I can extract those myself if it would delay a potential compilation! Let me know how I can help.

Thanks for the suggestion, @cabecrandall. I have passed it along to the AppEEARS team as potential future AppEEARS development work.

One more question! Are there open source code repositories that can be contributed to for AppEEARS or other Earthdata applications?

Hi @cabecrandall Currently there is not a way to contribute to AppEEARS directly. Please feel free to continue to provide suggestions for new features and functionality you'd like to see and we will pass those along to the team (they also read and post on this forum :) ). If you are interested, we do have a way to contribute to the AppEEARS data resources repository which can be found here: https://github.com/nasa/AppEEARS-Data-Resources/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md Most, if not all, of the LP DAAC resources repositories on GitHub allow contributions, just look for "CONTRIBUTING.md". You might also be interested in: https://github.com/nsidc/earthaccess, which is another way to access data programmatically that is being actively developed in an open source way.
