Ionosphere product formats

by justin333 » Wed Nov 01, 2023 1:11 pm America/New_York

I'm looking for some clarity on the format and availability of the CDDIS ionosphere products.

The website (https://cddis.nasa.gov/Data_and_Derived_Products/GNSS/atmospheric_products.html) mentions that since GPS week 2238, the ionosphere files will be available with the following format:

WWWW/IGS0OPSTYP_YYYYDDDHHMM_01D_SMP_CNT.INX.gz

However, the current folder structure accessible here (https://cddis.nasa.gov/archive/gnss/products/ionex/) is still in the YYYY/DDD format, which is the old format. When is the change to WWWW/ expected to occur?

In addition, the old formats (prior to GPS week 2237) of YYYY/DDD/AAAgDDD#.YYi.Z and YYYY/DDD/rotiDDD0.YYf.Z included predicted solutions (c1p and c2p files). The new format specified above appears to only support IGS rapid and final solutions. Will the predicted solutions continue to be available into the future or will they be removed entirely at some point? Currently I see a mix of the old and new file formats within the folders and am unsure if this can be expected going forward

Thanks.

Concerning predicted IONEX:

The user community can assume that the predicted product files will continue to be made available. We're trying to agree on a suitable naming convention. A cleanup of the predicted product files (in terms of file names) back to GPS week 2238 is intended (in order to follow the new long file naming convention consistently and to avoid redundant files).

Hello justin333

Starting at GPS week, 2238, the IGS's long file name format became official.

Providers of products were able to make the switch to the new format at this time, but some chose to submit their products in both name formats for an indeterminate amount of time. Other providers may have started to transition the products they create to the new name format, but may not have been ready to submit them to data centers exactly on this date.

Going forward, more and more products will use the new long name format, but we do not know the exact schedule of when the products will convert. Please contact the IGS for more clarification at the following URL:

Thank you!
