I would like to ask whether the skin surface temperature is the theoretical temperature or the measured temperature, because the temperature trend I drew using the theoretical temperature of ERA5 is rising, but the change is slight in MERRA-2.

Over the ocean, both MERRA2 and ERA5 read in SST observations, Over land, ERA5 assimilates near surface air temperature and moisture, while MERRA-2 does not. If the user is looking over land, there is a possibility that there is a difference. They can be close but there is no reason for them to be the same. For certain regions with little observations (eg Africa), there will be more uncertainty.
