Time-average TROPOMI NO2 data

by bexhadfield » Mon Dec 11, 2023 6:50 am America/New_York

Hello! I am hoping to download 2/3/4 month averaged NO2 TROPOMI data from GES disc EarthData however I am not sure how!

I currently can download data from one snapshot in time and export this into into Spyder and into .csv and .tif files etc. however I am really hoping to have time-averaged data!

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in using TROPOMI NO2 data at GES DISC. (https://disc.gsfc.nasa.gov/datasets/S5P_L2__NO2____HiR_2/summary?keywords=S5P_L2__NO2____HiR_2).

Earthdata currently does not have averaging services enabled; it only supports spatial, temporal, and variable subsetting. ESA (the creator of the S5P data), may provide resources on how to analyze (e.g. average data) here: https://atmospherictoolbox.org/usecases/

If you are not limited to using Sentinel-5P data, and do not have spatial resolution or temporal constraints for your analysis, you could consider using OMI NO2d data in our Giovanni service (https://giovanni.gsfc.nasa.gov/giovanni/#service=TmAvMp&starttime=&endtime=&dataKeyword=OMI%20NO2). Giovanni allows for simple temporal averaging. This OMNO2d data product is a Level-3 Gridded Product where pixel level data of good quality are binned and "averaged" into 0.25x0.25 degree global grids.
More information about OMI NO2d product can be found here: https://disc.gsfc.nasa.gov/datasets/OMNO2d_003/summary?keywords=OMI_NO2d

Please let us know if we can further assist you.

Hi, thanks so much for your response.

I am hoping to use the TROPOMI NO2 data over Nigeria since 2018 and get 3-monthly averages over the country. Therefore, I was not going to use GIOVANNI and instead, download the data and use Spyder, however, while I can download and map data from one moment in time, I am struggling to get temporal averages for the data
