if we do end up having to rotate passwords, is there an API to do this in an automated way? I found docs for a login API but every single link on this page is forbidden even after signing in. https://www.earthdata.nasa.gov/engage/open-data-services-and-software/api/earthdata-login-api

Hey all. Wanted to update those of you in this thread to say ESDIS has received all your feedback on the proposed change, and based on that feedback will be conducting an internal peer review before password rotation change is released.

Thanks again for expressing your concerns.

Second @joemcglinchy. We need a way to automate this. It appears the login API is not what you may think it is from the name, can't modify profiles. Our system uses an earthdata login account for which we keep the secrets stored securely in the cloud. It would be a major nuisance to have to manually change the earthdata account password and then update the secret in the credential manager each rotation period. But it seems like they have not thought this aspect out / are not intending to consider applications which utilize earthdata as a service account.
