Problem with downloading tiles using DAAC2Disk

by eplekh » Tue Dec 26, 2023 7:49 am America/New_York

Dear Earthdata team,

I'm using DAAC2Disk_win, which I downloaded from here:
https://lpdaac.usgs.gov/tools/daac2diskscripts/

I found this User Guide
https://lpdaac.usgs.gov/documents/603/DAAC2DiskUserGuide_20200313.pdf

And I'm trying to reproduce "Figure 3: Tile Search Example" in Windows Terminal:

.\Daac2Disk_win.exe --shortname MOD09A1 --versionid 006 --browse --begin 2018-03-30 --end 2018-04-06 --tile 20 22 3 4 --output .\example

However, I get the following message:
"There are 0 files to download."

The same repeats when I try to download other tiles of other MODIS products. At the same time, the download using BBOX (--bbox) works perfectly.

Could you please help me with this issue?
Does the option of downloading tiles work for you?

Kind regards,
Dr. Elena Plekhanova

Hi Elena,
Sorry for the hassles with the Daac2Disk tool. The User Guide should have been updated last summer when V006 was decommissioned. So if the Versionid was switched to 061 it should be successful.
Also, the Daac2Disk only searches the Data Pool and we are in the process of transitioning all our data holdings into the cloud. It will take some time to complete yet, but as we progress there will be less and less data in the Data Pool. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Brett

Dear Brett,

Thank you for your answer and for informing me about the transition from Data Pool to the cloud. Could you please give me more info if I can access the cloud already and which tools shall I use for that?

I was also trying other product with 061 version and it unfortunately did not work. But maybe I should use another tool-set?

May I kindly ask you an advice on how to easily download and mosaic MODIS data?
I would prefer a standard and quick way with access to the latest data, as my current research heavily relies on global MODIS maps. I'm familiar with command line, python or R if needed.

Thank you very much for your support,
Kind regards,
Elena

Hi Elena,
Thanks for your patience. We do have several options, including R and Python. Please see our different script options on the this site: https://lpdaac.usgs.gov/tools/data-prep-scripts/
Also, please take a look at my favorite tool, AppEEARS: https://appeears.earthdatacloud.nasa.gov/
It performs so many pre-processing functions on the data, it also returns spreadsheets and graphs along with the outputs, and there is an API version available also.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Brett
