Terra direct broadcast data outage?

by slwood » Sun Mar 10, 2024 11:48 pm America/New_York

Since 2024-03-08 23:11 all Terra passes scheduled for reception at Lauder, New Zealand, appear to have no signal -- is there a known issue with the Terra direct broadcast feed at present? I've seen no announcements recently.

Good afternoon. We have a similar situation. Starting from March 9, 2024, all Terra passes have no reception signal. Eastern European territory

The following message was sent to the Direct Broadcast community today (18 March 2024):

Terra continues to collect science; however, no Direct Broadcast is available.

Terra is encountering an intermittent solar array power generation issue limiting our ability to continue all science and provide Direct Broadcast continuously. We are continuing to evaluate the spacecraft power generation issue. Will resume Direct Broadcast if power generation returns to normal or may only be able to support limited Direct Broadcast, if any.

All,

As of 3/21 the Terra Flight Ops Team (FOT) continues to keep the onboard Terra Direct Broadcast hardware set to Standby mode. We have spent several days reviewing the spacecraft's charging profile and battery temperatures to determine the best path forward. An onboard monitor has been loaded to the spacecraft that would toggle Direct Broadcast from DB mode to standby mode during spacecraft day and vise versa during spacecraft night if we should experience this anomaly again in the future.

We have not yet been given a Go to re-enable Direct Broadcast to DB mode due to the fact that we are currently monitoring the spacecraft batteries after updating the trickle charge rate.

K-band science downlink is and has remained nominal. Updates will be posted as they become available.

Terra Direct Broadcast was re-enabled on 3/27 (DOY 87) @ 15:27GMT. The FOT will continue to monitor the spacecraft's power generation and battery charging profile.
