New description:
DSCOVR (Deep Space Climate Observatory) is an American space weather station that monitors changes in the solar wind, providing space weather alerts and forecasts for geomagnetic storms that could disrupt power grids, satellites, telecommunications, aviation, and GPS.
DSCOVR, previously known as Triana, uses the Sun-Earth Lagrange point L1 (~1,5000,000 km away from Earth) to observe the Earth continuously. This is a cooperative project between the offices of Earth and Space Science. DSCOVR was launched in Feb 2015 from Kennedy Space Center to reach L1 (the Lagrange neutral gravity point between the Earth and the Sun) from which it observes Earth.
