2-meter temperatures in MERRA-2 derivation

by fivedolphins » Sat May 18, 2024 10:20 pm America/New_York

I am using the 2-meter temperatures in MERRA-2, and I am wondering where I can find documentation on how these are calculated in the model. I am wondering if they are interpolated between the skin temperature and the lowest model level, or if they are calculated in some other way? Thank you.

The 2m data is computed from a Monin-Obukov type surface layer parameterization. See Molod et al. (2015) for some description and references to the derivations, linked from the MERRA-2 documentation pages.
