Suomi NPP VIIRS Data Product Geolocation Anomaly
Posted: Fri May 31, 2024 2:07 pm America/New_York
An anomaly with the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (SNPP) Global Positioning System (GPS), which started at approximately 22:23:14 UTC on May 25, 2024, is causing significant degradation in geolocation performance for SNPP VIIRS data. The geolocation errors have been found to exceed 1 km. Given this degradation, all production of SNPP VIIRS Level-2 and higher-level data products are being suspended until further notice. Users are advised not to use any SNPP VIIRS data products that have been produced and distributed since May 25, 2024.
The LP DAAC will release another announcement when a resolution has been determined.
