Reminder! Forward Processing for most VIIRS Version 1 Products Ends June 17, 2024

Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Version 1 (Collection 1) land data products will terminate forward processing on June 17, 2024. The only exceptions are the Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF) and Albedo products whose forward processing will resume by early July and continue until the Version 2 (Collection 2) reprocessing is fully complete over the historical mission period.

For all other land products, users are strongly encouraged to switch to Version 2 data products, which have better radiometric calibration and are more consistent with Aqua MODIS for long-term climate studies. Refer to the VIIRS Land C2 Changes document for a brief description of the science changes and updates in the newer version of land products.

The VIIRS Version 2 collection offers data products from both the NASA/NOAA Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration-20 (NOAA-20) satellites to provide continuity with MODIS land science products. The complete list of VIIRS Version 2 datasets is listed in the VIIRS Products Table.
