MODIS to VIIRS Transition for Air Quality Applications: NASA ARSET Training Invitation

by bblevins » Wed Sep 16, 2020 1:08 pm America/New_York

NASA Applied Remote Sensing Training Program (ARSET) has opened registration for a new open, online webinar: MODIS to VIIRS Transition for Air Quality Applications.

If you would like to join us or pass along to colleagues who will find it useful, please do so. Please see the training details and registration information below.

MODIS to VIIRS Transition for Air Quality Applications

With the end of the MODIS data record approaching, it is important that current MODIS users transition to VIIRS data and visualization tools. As they make this transition, users also need information regarding which MODIS geophysical parameters will be available with VIIRS and vice-versa, and the differences between them. This training will teach users how to access VIIRS data products, the differences involved in using VIIRS as opposed to MODIS, and how to apply VIIRS aerosol optical depth observations for air quality applications.

Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal:
• Target 3.9: By 2030, substantially reduce the number of deaths and illnesses from hazardous chemicals and air, water and soil pollution and contamination

Course Date, Times and Registration Information:

Times: 09:00-10:30 & 16:00-17:30 EDT (UTC-4); There will be identical sessions at two different times of the day. Participants need only to register and attend one session.

Register Here: https://go.nasa.gov/2EPX33A

Learning Objectives: By the end of this training, participants will:

 Access NASA VIIRS aerosol products through Earthdata
 Describe the differences between the MODIS and VIIRS instruments and aerosol optical depth (AOD) products
 Understand how VIIRS aerosol optical depth observations can be used for modeling and monitoring of air pollution transport

Audience: This webinar is designed for MODIS end-users from all around the world, both applied and those involved in research.

Course Format: One, 1.5 hour part
