Extracting Point-Specific Flash Density Data from HRFC Dataset
Extracting Point-Specific Flash Density Data from HRFC Dataset
I'm currently working with the HRFC Annual Mean Flash Density dataset and facing some challenges in extracting precise flash density values (flashes km⁻² yr⁻¹) for specific locations.
Url: https://lightning.nsstc.nasa.gov/data/data_lis-otd-climatology.html
I need to retrieve the flash density at precise geographic coordinates (e.g., where a building is located) from the following dataset:
High Resolution Full Climatology (HRFC)
Data: LIS/OTD 0.5° High Resolution Full Climatology (HRFC)
Reference Image: HRFC_COM_FR_V2.3.2015.png
I've tried using Panoply, but I couldn't find a way to extract data for a specific point. Does anyone have recommendations for a tool or method to achieve this?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Extracting Point-Specific Flash Density Data from HRFC Dataset
To extract value of 'HRFC_COM_FR' (long_name = 'Combined Flash Rate Climatology', units = "count/km^2/year") for a specific point using Panoply:
(1) Open the data file in Panoply;
(2) Choose the data field 'HRFC_COM_FR' and then click the 'Create Plot'' button at top-left;
(3) On the pop-up window with plot showing, click the 'Array1' button at top-left, you can see data values for all grids: Y axis: Latitude, X axis: Longitude.

Thank you for your previous answer. I have a follow-up question: Is it possible to input geographical data—such as a university's location using these Google Maps coordinates (50.42730665397598, 30.465976188335162)—and then calculate an average value? Currently, there is only an array of data without any approximation between the points. Please see the attached screenshot for further context.
Or should I just use the average of the four digits?
