Population estimates with SEDAC global map
Population estimates with SEDAC global map
I am able to enter the lat/long coordinates on the SEDAC global map
https://sedac.ciesin.columbia.edu/mapping/popest/pes-v3/
to get population within a radius of that point it generates only an error message - says service is unavailable.
I have previously used this service quite a lot and it worked well eg recent paper relating population density to contaminants in water DOI: 10.1021/acs.est.3c01866
Suggestions for a work around would be appreciated

Re: Population estimates with SEDAC global map
Hello @derekmuir,
Please be advised, on April 30, 2025, the contract for NASA's Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC), managed by Columbia University's Center for Integrated Earth System Information (CIESIN), was terminated and the datasets SEDAC curated were no longer available. Since then, the Earth Science Data and Information System (ESDIS) project has been working to get the datasets rehoused. Starting today, all SEDAC datasets have been relocated to Earthdata Cloud and can be found in Earthdata Search. View the complete article for more information.

Re: Population estimates with SEDAC global map
Will the tools that enabled population with a radius of a lat/long on the SEDAC global map be available on the near Earthdata site? They were very useful.

If you're referring to the POPGRID Viewer, the current link available from the Earthdata Tools page still navigates to SEDAC and does not currently resolve. We will need to check to see if this tool will be incorporated within Earthdata.
