Hello everyone,
I am encountering a persistent issue while trying to download data from the MERRA-2 M2TMNPTDT (tavgM_3d_tdt_Np) collection and would appreciate any guidance.
The Problem:
When I attempt to download files from this specific collection (3D monthly mean temperature tendencies), the operation fails with a 404 Not Found error. For example, when trying to download the file MERRA2_400.tavgM_3d_tdt_Np.201906.SUB.nc, the server responds that it is "not available for download".
What I Have Tried & Observed:
Download Method: The error occurs consistently, both when using wget scripts and when attempting to download directly via the website interface.
Successful Downloads: For comparison, I can download data from other MERRA-2 collections (such as tavgM_2d_rad_Nx for surface radiation) without any issues using the same methods and credentials. This suggests the problem is specific to the tavgM_3d_tdt_Np product.
This inconsistency is confusing, and I'm unsure why one dataset is accessible while the other is not.
Has anyone else experienced this issue with the tavgM_3d_tdt_Np collection? Are there any known service issues, specific access requirements, or alternative methods to obtain this data?
Thank you for your time and help

Re: MERRA-2 Download Issue with tavgM_3d_tdt_Np Data Product
Dear user,
Thank you for your interest in MERRA-2 data!
There are no differences in how the various MERRA-2 collections are accessed. We tested downloading the file MERRA2_400.tavgM_3d_tdt_Np.201906.nc4 and did not encounter any issues.
Could you please try again? If the problem persists, we would appreciate it if you could share your selected subsetting options, or simply provide us with an example data URL, e.g., something like below,
https://goldsmr5.gesdisc.eosdis.nasa.gov/daac-bin/OTF/HTTP_services.cgi?FILENAME=%2Fdata%2FMERRA2_MONTHLY%2FM2TMNPTDT.5.12.4%2F2019%2FMERRA2_400.tavgM_3d_tdt_Np.201906.nc4&DATASET_VERSION=5.12.4&LABEL=MERRA2_400.tavgM_3d_tdt_Np.201906.SUB.nc&VERSION=1.02&BBOX=-90%2C-180%2C90%2C180&LAYERS=LAYER_1%2C7&FORMAT=bmM0Lw&SERVICE=L34RS_MERRA2&VARIABLES=DTDTGWD&SHORTNAME=M2TMNPTDT

Re: MERRA-2 Download Issue with tavgM_3d_tdt_Np Data Product
Dear GES DISC Support Team,
Thank you for getting back to me.
Yes, I was using the GES DISC Subsetter to get the data. I think I might have found what was causing the issue.
I noticed that when I selected all the variables for download, the data would not download. However, if I selected the variables in separate groups, the download worked perfectly.
Here's something interesting: when I selected one or a few variables, the page correctly showed a message like "1 selected variable(s) selected". But when I tried to select all variables, the page instead showed: "Please select at least one variable".
It seems that selecting all the variables might have caused an issue with the request, which likely led to my earlier download problems. It was probably an error on my end while using the subsetter.
Thanks again for your help and guidance.
Best regards
