How to use Landsat 5 (TM) and 7 (ETM+) in L2gen OCSSW?

Hello, World!

I would like to know how to apply atmospheric corrections in the SeaDAS processor using OCSSW. At first glance, it seems straightforward to use the corrections for the Landsat 8 (OLI1) and Landsat 9 (OLI2) datasets, for which the installers for the OLI sensors are available. However, these OCSSW installers are not available for TM and ETM+, corresponding to Landsat 5 and 7, respectively.

Consequently, I am unable to apply atmospheric corrections to these datasets (TM and ETM+). How should I proceed? Do I need to install an older version of OCSSW, or is there another way? I really haven’t found any other solution.

Thank you in advance!

The user is asking how to perform atmospheric correction in SeaDAS (OCSSW) for Landsat 5 (TM) and Landsat 7 (ETM+), since OCSSW currently provides installers only for Landsat 8 (OLI1) and Landsat 9 (OLI2). The issue is that TM and ETM+ are not officially supported by current OCSSW versions.

To proceed, users can either:

Use an older OCSSW version (prior to the removal of TM/ETM+ support), available through the SeaDAS GitHub or archives; or

Process Level-1 data externally using tools like LaSRC, ACOLITE, or LEDAPS, which are specifically designed for atmospheric correction of Landsat 5 and 7 data.

After applying corrections externally, users can import the results into SeaDAS for further analysis. There’s no need to install unsupported OCSSW components manually, as they are deprecated and may no longer function with current OCSSW architecture.

While you cannot install l5tm and l7etmp processors through SeaDAS GUI, you can still manually install them on command line

Code: Select all

$  ./install_ocssw --install_dir $HOME/ocssw --tag V2025.5 --seadas --l5tm --l7etmp
See instructions here -- https://www.earthdata.nasa.gov/data/tools/seadas/installers-source-code
