NISAR geolocation error .. or plotting error?

by andrewschuh » Thu Sep 03, 2026 4:49 pm America/New_York

Just curious whether anybody understands the below. Data looks interesting over a USDA site here in Colorado. But in at least one scene, it is totally misaligned or something. Crop circles are covering the runway in the image.

Fig1

Our USDA site in Greeley, with Greeley North-South airport runway on right side of selection box.

Fig 2

July 10th, clearly crop circles here but in wrong places, on runway for instance.

Fig3

From Aug 15th (below), looks fine, the vertical dark strip to right (bottom to top) at right edge of selection box is the N-S runway at airport. Clearly in July 10 .. it has crop circles over it.

Fig4

Earthdata website problem? I see some issues w/ quick looks but the example shown is pretty trivial looking, this seems reasonably large.

Thanks for reporting your observation. Yes July 10 product for this specific frame has known issue and will be reprocessed in future. Due to an edge case in raw data processor, the raw data may be shifted when there is a discarded/missing pulse and that impacts the downstream products. The issue will be fixed in the next round of ground processor delivery. We have discussed this issue in other posts such as this one:
