Acquisition of New CERES Data from Suomi NPP to Cease on November 2, 2026

Creation of new Clouds and the Earth's Radiant Energy System (CERES) data products from the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) satellite will end with data date 13:00 Universal Time (UTC) on November 2, 2026 (2026/305), NOAA's National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) announced on August 3, 2026. NASA archives and distributes data from Suomi NPP through Earthdata and multiple distributed data archive centers.
Please note that the cessation date for Suomi NPP data is subject to change, and further updates will be provided as November 2 approaches.
Also note that there is normally a delay of a few months before CERES products are produced.
In general, CERES data users can transition from Suomi NPP to data from the Flight Model 6 (FM6) instrument on the NOAA-20 platform, which are accessible via NASA’s Earthdata Search. NOAA-20 is part of the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) fleet, which was designed to continue the Suomi NPP legacy by providing comparable science data products via similar instruments.
The cessation will affect the following data from the CERES instrument, Flight Model 5 (FM5) aboard Suomi NPP:
